Essential Oils & a few of the reasons I fell in love with them

lavenderEssential Oils seem to be the latest craze as they are popping up everywhere!  If you don’t read anything else in this post, please read this:  The EO market is NOT regulated!!  Just because the bottle says that it’s pure, doesn’t mean it is!!!  Just like “Fragrance” on a label basically means “filled with MANY chemicals”, “100% Pure & Natural Essential Oils” means absolutely nothing!!  There may be 5% of a true plant oil in the oil, and the rest is synthetic aroma enhancing chemicals.  BUYER BEWARE!!!  DO NOT BUY OILS TO SUPPORT HEALTH & WELLNESS UNLESS YOU ARE SURE WHERE THEY COME FROM AND HOW THEY ARE PRODUCED!!!  IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE!   Like most things, if the price is too good to be true, it is!

There are oils being sold right now at big box stores and other places labeled with all the right buzz words; however, these oils also have warnings that they are not to be used on skin and could be fatal if swallowed or get into airways!!  The main reason to use pure essential oils is to get them into the body, and our skin is our largest organ!  Inhalation is one of the BEST ways to use genuine essential oils because the olfactory nerves are directly linked to our brain.  So, why would buy or use oils that state they could be FATAL if they get on skin or in airways???  Scary stuff!

I choose to use and to be an educator and distributor for Young Living Essential Oils because I did A LOT of research, and I feel these oils are the best for me and my family.   I purchased oils from many different companies before coming to this conclusion.  I did side by side testing using scent, intended results, and price.  Of course, couldn’t buy them all, and many of the companies from whom I purchased are reputable; however, YL came out on top for me when I factored in everything. Sometimes I hear that Young Living oils are more expensive than others, yet I’ve found that I use way fewer drops to get the same results!  When comparing prices with companies that sell only pure oils, there is very little difference; I found that some oils were more expensive, some less.  In addition, Young Living has one of the best member rewards programs I’ve seen, so one is actually getting a whole lot more for the money if a frequent purchaser of product.  I decided that educating others about the healthier options available to them through essential oils is something that I would love to do, so I chose a company that I felt completely comfortable recommending to others.  Young Living is the only company that I know of that invites me to visit their farms where I can see the process that goes into my little bottles from seed to seal!   There are as many philosophies about how to best utilize the amazing benefits of 100% pure plant oils as there are oils themselves.  I want to share my experiences, but I want to encourage you to find out what works for you since everyone’s body chemistry is different!  Please be careful when starting to use essential oils. They ARE powerful; start with one drop and work your way up, and be especially conscientious with young children.  Oils can be used safely for kids with amazing results, but proceed cautiously!

I originally became interested in essential oils when my husband was first diagnosed with cancer, and I began a search for a healthier lifestyle filled with fewer toxins.  I hate the ways that we have abused our natural environment and filled our lives with chemicals instead of natural goodness.  As I discussed in a previous post, Thoughts on East vs. West, I believe that we have “thrown the baby out with the bath water” by turning our backs on a 6000 year history of alternative and complementary medicine which uses gifts from nature such as essential oils.  More and more medical professionals are realizing there is a place for essential oils in Western medical settings.

Since I started researching a more chemical free lifestyle,  I have eliminated hundreds of chemical filled products from my life.   I believe everyone should decide what is best for them, and I AM NOT here to judge what chemicals or preservatives are in the products you choose for your family.   I AM here to help any one in any way that I can!  Some would say that chemotherapy is not the way to go to treat cancer because it is extremely TOXIC; however, my husband and I chose the treatments and doctors that we believed would be the best for him.  Chemotherapy was part of it.   Others would probably tell me that the fact that I continue to color my hair (Shh! Don’t tell anyone!) is wrong because of the chemicals involved there, but so far I haven’t been able to let that go!  So, I have a long way to go in being chemical free, and that’s okay!!  Remember, my post about living Just For Today?  Don’t we all have journeys, and aren’t we told that ?  We are all in the same boat aboard this (polluted) ocean!

I don’t do much (vacations, restaurants, doctors, brand of running shoes, essential oil companies) without reading & investigating until satisfied that I can make an informed decision.  So, here are some links to articles that I found interesting about essential oil usage.   Be your own advocate and educate yourself.  Education is I encourage you to make your own decisions, do your own research, but make at least ONE change that will make you feel better about YOU!  Because if you can’t keep yourself going, there is no way that you can help others.

Again, I encourage everyone to research for themselves because there is a whole lot more information available.  Always make sure that you are getting information from a trusted source and don’t believe everything you see on the internet!  PLEASE, no matter what you decide, go back and read my first paragraph before choosing an oil company or buying your first oil.  Quality is SO important!
